Welcome to our Elementary School’s Summer Reading Program! This exciting initiative is designed to keep our students engaged with reading throughout the summer break, fostering a love for books and enhancing their literacy skills in a fun and enjoyable way.

WHAT IS THE SUMMER
READING PROGRAM?

The Summer Reading Program is an annual event that encourages students to
continue reading during the summer months.

The program aims to:

Promote a Love of Reading
By providing a variety of book options and activities, we strive to make reading a fun and rewarding experience.

Prevent Summer Slide
Continuing to read over the summer helps students maintain and improve their reading skills, preventing the “summer slide” where students can lose some of the progress they made during the school year.

Encourage Independent Reading
Students get the opportunity to explore different genres and choose books that interest them, fostering a sense of independence and curiosity.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

1. Book Lists

We provide curated book lists tailored to each grade level. These lists include a diverse selection of genres and topics
to cater to different interests and reading levels.

2. Reading Logs

Students will receive reading logs to track the books they read over the summer. For each book completed, students
can write a brief summary or draw a picture about the story.

3. Weekly Challenges

¸Each week, we'll post fun reading challenges on our school website. These challenges might include reading a book in
a new place, finding a book by a new author, or reading a book that was made into a movie.

4. Reading Rewards

To motivate our young readers, we offer rewards and incentives. Students who complete their reading logs or
participate in weekly challenges can earn certificates, bookmarks, and other fun prizes.

5. End-of-Summer Celebration

We’ll wrap up the program with a special celebration where students can share their favorite books, participate in
book-related games, and receive their reading rewards.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

Reading over the summer helps students build a strong foundation for the upcoming school year. It improves vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. Plus, it’s a great way for students to discover new interests and adventures through the pages of a book.

We hope all our students take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to keep their minds active and their imaginations soaring over the summer break. Happy reading!
